Thomas Paine was born Thetford, England on January 29, 1737. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentince. In the time of 24 years, Thomas held various jobs. He would work hard at mathematics and experment with mechanical contrivances. In October of 1774, Thomas met Benjamin Franklin who encouraged him to move to America. Paine took Franklin's advice and soon moved. There, Paine wrote for the Pennsylvania Magazine. Within 6 months he soon became the editior. Paine published many articls against the abolition of slavery and the fight for independence from England. Not long did he became obsessed with the American Colonies flight for independence from Great Britain.
In 1776, Paine wrote Common Sense. In it offered "nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments, and common sense" on the idea of American independence from England. He stated, "To say that the Commons is a check upon the king, presupposes... that the king is not to be trusted without being looked after," (Paine Common Sense, Page 553) Not long sence Common Sense was released to the public sold 120,000 copies in America. More were sold in European countries as well. Common Sense inspired people to fight for there indepence and also got people prepared for the Declaration of Independence.
Paine died at 59 Grove Street in Greenwich Village, New York Ctiy on the morning of June 8, 1809. All his life, Thomas Paine encourage free thinking and belive in ones thoughts. He believed that anyone has the right to be free. Paine put these belives in to action in writing. He had a profound influence on the American Revolution. "Thomas Paine proved that it does not matter what class you are born into, or how great a formal education you receive. What matters is what is in your mind and heart".
